An examination of the talents and wisdom of elderly musicians, singers, and story-tellers, who perform not for fame or fortune but to preserve and share their culture. Featuring stories, ballads, fiddle tunes, and tales of moonshining and feuds, along with footage from the Alabama Sacred Harp Convention in Fyffe, Alabama, in which people of all ages gather to sing old-time shape-note hymnody. www.folkstreams.net/film,127

8–11:30pm: Live music with Arielle Natale, Mark "Big Daddy" Brack, and special guests

Arielle Natale is new musician on the Lowell scene with a captivating voice and a fresh songwriting style. Her command of the piano brings her inspired melodic ideas to a new level. Don't miss her debut public performance! Mark Brack is a folk singer who has risen from homeless veteran to a joyful and progressive musician. On top of his knowledgeable guitar playing, his powerful voice carries songs of life, love, and the human condition. He will be performing with Seth Bailin (bass
guitar, saxophone) and Paul Spano (percussion).

Plant Food (when I'm dead) will hang in the office of State Senator Steven C. Panagiotakos, along with the work of other UMass Lowell students and alumni, from October 2008 through the end of the year.

The exhibition is not open to the public, and only available to individuals who visit the Senator's office on official business.

The goal of the installation is to showcase the work of UML students and alumni and have it serve as a reminder, to all who visit, of the important role that Senator Panagiotakos's department plays in the development of young, creative minds.
